Library of Congress Photochrom Print Collection: Germany, Austria, & Switzerland, 1890-1910

This database contains a collection of approximately 2,200 public domain photographs and prints. The pictures are held by the U.S. Library of Congress' Prints and Photographs Division in the “Photochrom Prints” collection. This database covers the years 1890-1910 and contains photos and prints from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. About Photochrom Prints:

Photochrom is a process that combines photography and lithography to produce a color print from an original black and white photo negative. The process was originally developed in Zürich, Switzerland. It was popular around the turn of the century when color photography was still being developed and was used quite a bit in the production of postcards.
