About Kansas, U.S., Grand Army of the Republic Post Reports, 1880-1940

This is a collection of annual reports for the Kansas department of the Grand Army of the Republic. This collection consists of quarterly muster rolls sent to the state department from 500 local posts. The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) was a veteran's organization for Union soldiers after the Civil War. It reached its largest influence thanks to lobbying for pensions for veterans.

The reports listed member information for all active members at the time the records were created. The reports list the name of post officers and the change in members from the previous report. This collection also includes the activities of the post, charter applications, and photographs of post charters. The Woman’s Relief Corps (WRC) opened auxiliaries at GAR posts and some WRC records may also be found in this collection.

  • Name
  • Age
  • Birthplace
