A History of Cabarrus County in the Wars (Indexed)

The history contained in this database lists individuals from Cabarrus County, North Carolina who fought in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Spanish-American War, WWI, and WWII. The collection contains casualty and veterans’ lists for WWI and WWII ordered alphabetically, and lists of participants in previous wars ordered by regiment and rank then alphabetically by name. Some vital dates are included where known such as death dates. Also the database may contain names of immediate surviving family members, location where the individual served, medals or decorations received, residence, occupation, length of time served, recruitment and discharge dates, cause of death, etc. Some pictures of individuals serving in WWII are included as well as illustrations of medals and decorations and a bibliography.

Cabarrus County is located in the south-central part of North Carolina. It was formed from part of Mecklenburg County in 1792 (a good fact to know when researching members of the colonial army). Mecklenburg is reputed to be the first part of the Thirteen Colonies to declare independence from Great Britain. Brigadier General Rufus Clay Barringer from Cabarrus County participated in the Civil War. Although initially opposed to secession, Barringer was loyal first to his state and raised a company of 100 horsemen, known as the “Cabarrus Rangers” (Company F of the 1st North Carolina Cavalry).
