The Fife, Kinross, and Clackmannan Register and County Lists for the years 1814, 1903, 1905, 1908, 1912, 1914, and 1917 are contained in this database. The Registers and Lists are a cross between an area directory and an almanac. Information recorded includes local nobility, clergy, justices of the peace, Freeholders (persons who have been granted rights to regulate local business and trade), members of parliament, police commissioners, tax collectors, census counts by parish, Masonic lodge members, dates of market fairs, roads, pricing lists for agricultural produce, coach schedules, ferry passage schedules, horticultural societies, banks, religious societies, and many other things pertinent to the community.

For the genealogist the listings of local societies, nobility, government members, etc., will be helpful in ascertaining if your ancestor resided in the area and how they participated in the community. You may be able to determine their occupation as well as religious and social affiliations. Some of the registers are fronted by an index of local parishes and county councils. Other small towns whose information is included are Dunfermline, Cupar, and Kirkcaldy. Fife itself was one of the Pictish Kingdoms in Scotland and is still commonly known as the Kingdom of Fife with a hunting tradition called the Fife Hunt, whose members are listed in some of the registers. It is also home to St. Andrews, the provenance of golf, and St. Andrews University, one of the oldest universities in Europe.
