This database contains a collection of various death records for Willamette Valley, Oregon. Most are from Marion County. They include funeral home records, cemetery records, newspaper obituaries, and death certificates transcribed or compiled by members of the Willamette Valley Genealogical Society. Details vary depending on document type, but they may include the following:

  • name
  • date and place of death
  • cause of death
  • date and place of birth
  • spouse’s name
  • father’s name
  • mother’s name
  • occupation

Obituaries may provide a short history along with the names of, and relationship to, other family members.

Some of the volumes are arranged chronologically, others alphabetically. Some also include introductions with background on the records, institutions, and history they reference. Note that obituaries are preceded by an index card with the name and source, so you may need to use the arrow keys to move forward to the actual record.

The Williamette Valley Genealogical Society was organized in 1968 to create and foster the study of family history. Formerly affiliated with the Oregon State Library in Salem, Marion County, Oregon, the Society is now associated with the Salem Public Library. The Society’s collection of genealogy materials is cataloged on the Chemeketa Cooperative Regional Library Service and is available to the public at the Salem Public Library. Members volunteer at the Library, providing free research assistance to Library visitors. WVGS can be contacted for other research for a fee.
