About Tarsia, Italy, Shipwrecked Jewish Refugees in the Aegean Sea, 1939-1942

In May of 1939 or 1940, a group of European Jewish refugees were shipwrecked in the Aegean Sea and temporarily housed on the Island of Rhodes. In 1942, they were transferred to the Ferramonti Di Tarsia internment camp. This collection contains the names, date and place of birth, nationality, and occupation of about 500 people from the shipwrecked vessel. The files were originally from the International Tracing Service, held in the archives in Bad Arolsen, Germany.
