About Frankenberg, Germany, Residence Records, 1834-1922

About this collection

This collection contains residence records from Frankenberg, Saxony. Frankenberg is a city in the Mittelsachsen district of the German state of Saxony. The city is located in the Saxon Uplands along the Zschopau River about 10 miles northeast of Chemnitz. It takes its name from a 12th century Frankish settlement. The St. Aegidien church in the historic city center is a notable landmark. During the time period of this collection, from 1806 until 1918, Frankenberg belonged to the Kingdom of Saxony.

Compiled by Frankenberg municipal authorities, these registration documents capture details about citizens' temporary and permanent residences and provide important historical insights into local economies and social structures. The earliest entries in the collection are birth records dating from 1786. The latest entries are registration records and departure notices from 1922.
