About Alabama, U.S., Register of Officers, 1820-1863

The Adjutant General is appointed by the governor to supervise all the activities of the militia and all military property held by the state. This series of five volumes from the Adjutant General's Office of Alabama documents officers who served in the Alabama militia and Alabama military units from the beginning of statehood until the middle of the Civil War. Information included in the registers consists of the name of the officer, rank, the date of commision, date of resignation, remarks, and the name of the unit in which the officer served. Volume 5, which covers the years 1861 to 1863, also includes the date elected and residence place for each officer.
