About Thuringia, Germany, Selected Lutheran Baptisms, Marriages, and Burials, 1549-1876

About this collection

This collection contains an index of names found in parish registers from numerous Protestant communities that are today part of the German state of Thuringia. The oldest church records in this collection date from the 16th century. Many of the parish registers end in 1876. In addition to records traditionally kept by the Church in the former German Empire, the State mandated that personal and vital statistics be recorded by local registry offices.

Records for the city of Rudolstadt are included as well as for communities found in the modern districts of Ilm-Kreis and and Kyffhäuserkreis. The areas covered generally correspond to the historical territories included in the small principalities of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt and Schwarzburg-Sonderhausen.

What you can find in the records
